Background

We are a refugee family who were forced to flee our country and seek refuge in Iran in 2021 due to our involvement in humanitarian and international projects, and because of serious security threats, including the risk of arrest, prosecution, and imprisonment by the Taliban.

Current Situation

Several years after our arrival in Iran, our family continues to face serious financial hardship, limitations related to our legal situation, and insufficient access to essential support and protection services.

Although our case has been registered with UNHCR, we have not yet received a durable solution or effective support capable of addressing the fundamental challenges faced by our family.

Economic difficulties, instability in daily life, and ongoing uncertainty about the future have had a significant impact on the emotional well-being, social conditions, and educational opportunities of our family members.

“Tamana is about to enter her tenth year of life, yet she has never entered a classroom.”

Tamana is now nine years old and will soon enter her tenth year of life. Because of documentation challenges, legal limitations, and severe financial hardship, she has never had the opportunity to attend school or receive formal education.

While many children her age have spent years learning, building friendships, developing skills, and preparing for their future, Tamana remains excluded from one of the most fundamental rights of every child: access to education.

Every year without education widens the gap between Tamana and the opportunities available to other children. Our hope is simple: that she will be given the opportunity to learn, grow, and build the future that every child deserves.

After nearly five years of living in uncertainty, without a clear future and without adequate protection, we respectfully ask humanitarian organizations and international institutions to give urgent attention to our family's situation.

Given the risks we would face in the event of forced return, including the possibility of arrest, prosecution, and imprisonment by the Taliban, we respectfully request that our case be treated as urgent and that efforts be made to facilitate our transfer to a safe country as quickly as possible.

For nearly five years, our family has lived without a durable solution and without the ability to enjoy the stability and opportunities normally available to legally recognized residents. We remain in a vulnerable and uncertain situation.

We understand that refugee status determination, resettlement procedures, and final case decisions may require significant time. Nevertheless, we respectfully request support and protection while our case remains under review.

Situation Statement

Unfortunately, during the recent conflict and nights of heavy explosions and airstrikes over Tehran, our home was shaken and filled with fear. Each night we wondered whether we would survive to see the next day.

Tamna, like many other children, woke up in fear from the sounds of explosions and experienced intense anxiety and distress during this period. The recent war brought a deeply traumatic experience filled with fear and uncertainty that is difficult to forget.

Fortunately, at the time of writing this statement, a ceasefire has been established. We sincerely hope that international organizations will urgently support our transfer to a safe country, where Tamna and her sisters can continue their education without restriction or deprivation.
